He was a defenseman who shot with his right hand. Aucoin began his career with the Repeat Raiders of the CJHL and Boston University. He was drafted by the Vancouver Canucks in the National Hockey League in 1992 with 117 points. From 1994 to 2001, Aucoin played for the Canucks. From 2’000 to 2001, he played for the Tampa Bay Lightning and from 2001 to 2004 for the New York Islanders. Aucoin played for the Chicago Blackhawks from 2005 to 2007, the Calgary Flames from 2007 to 2009, the Phoenix Coyotes from 2009 to 2012, and the Columbus Blue Jackets from 2012 to 2013.
