An?bal Cavaco Silva net worth: An?bal Cavaco Silva is a Portuguese politician who has a net worth of $5’000’000. Antonio Cavaco Silva was born on 15 July 1939 in Boliqueime, Portugal. He is the 19th President of Portugal and is currently President. Silva won the Portuguese presidential election on 22 January 2006 and was re-elected for a second term of five years on 23 January 2011. He was former Prime Minister of Portugal from 6 November 1985 to 28 October 1995. He was the longest Prime Minister of Portugal since Salazar and was the first Portuguese Prime Minister to have an absolute parliamentary majority under the current constitutional system. As an undistinguished student at School, a 13-year-old Silva flunked the 3rd grade of the Commercial School, and his grandfather arranged for him to work on the farm. He later returned to School and went on to become a great student. Silva went on to Lisbon, where he, in 1959, took a vocational education course in accounting from the Institute Commercial de Lisboa, known today as the Institute Superior de Contabilidade e admin. He went to college and received a degree in economics and finance. He became active in politics after the April 1974 Carnation Revolution. Later that year, he joined the then-PDP political party. In 1980 Prime Minister Francisco SA Garnered appointed An?bal Cavaco Silva as Minister of Finance, where he earned a reputation as an economic liberal and gradually dismantled regulations inhibiting free enterprise. Silva announced his candidacy for the presidential election In October 2005. He is the first center-right politician elected in Portugal since 1974. He is also the second former Prime Minister to be elected as President, following Mario Soars.
