He was elected six times to the pro-bowl and was comp of the pro-bowl in 1982. He was a two-time Afro-American first-team as well as two times second-team all-pro. Fouts was named the 1982 NFL MVP and was also the Offensive Player of the Year of the NFL. In 1979 and 1982, he was named the Player of the Year at the UPI AFC. He led the NFL in passing yards From 1979 to 1982 and was the first player to throw for 4’000 yards in three consecutive seasons. Fouts retired from a career of 14 seasons with the San Diego Chargers and was inducted into the San Diego Chargers Hall of Fame. He was named to the 1980s NFL all-decade team and the 40th and 50th Anniversary Teams of the San Diego Chargers. Fouts was inducted into the 1993 Pro Football Hall of Fame. He worked from 1988 to 1993 as an NFL analyst for CBS. He worked on Monday Night Football and became an anchor in San Francisco. In 2008 Fouts returned to CBS and was paired with Dick ENSERG and Ian Eagle.
