He is a member of the centrist Citizens Action Party PAC and the current President of Costa Rica. Solis led the 2014 presidential election and was effectively given the presidency after San Jose mayor Johnny Ara ya Monte ceased active campaigning in the first round. Solis has held various positions both as a professor and as a consultant. In the PAC’s primary, he ran against Easy Campbell Barr, Juan Carlos Mendoza Garcia, and Ronald Solis Bola nos, winning with 35 percent of the vote, only 110 votes more than Juan Carlos Mendoza Garcia.
