He won the World Chess Championships in 2’000, 2007, 2008, 2010, and 2012 and has held the title of World Champion since 2007. He is one of only six people on the FIDE to surpass the 2800 mark and is currently fourth on the list as of 2012. India has recognized him with numerous honors, including granting him the highest civilian award, the Padua Vibhushan.
