So the fact that a lot of straight men have gone on to play iconic gay roles and to be lauded for that is fantastic, that that story is being told. But wouldn’t it be brilliant to see gay men play their own experience?
Kanye is the best. I’m obsessed with him to the nine. There’s nobody smarter, cooler. I sit for hours talking to him sometimes. There’s nobody more amazing, brilliant, innovative. He talks to me and I leave him and I’m like How am I going to talk to regular people now?
I miss Kanye. I miss him around; I miss his brilliant energy. Keeps you really motivated… I love it. I love it! He is always ahead of the times. He is inspiring.

Often you’d find yourself exhausted backstage during a matinee with glitter on your face, asking a colleague, ‘Who’s your gas supplier?’ At the time, I thought, ‘This would make a brilliant TV comedy drama.’
Some people are brilliant at being comedy actors and if you’re a comedian I think there’s a perception that, if you’re acting at something that’s meant to be funny, it will be funny all the way though and you’ll be dropping in gags.

I’m not perfect, I’m not brilliant at everything, I just try my best and I enjoy crafting. If I have something old or broken and I can use it for something else, I get a real joy out of it.
I have an affinity with Mediterranean cuisine. Spending a few summers in Italy, France, Spain and Turkey, there’s something brilliant about freshly caught fish, slashed, scattered with a few herbs, a squeeze of lemon, a slug of good olive oil, then thrown on a grill.
I was offered a screen test for a business show on Japanese TV. I did it for a laugh, really, and I got the job. It turned out to be a pretty brave yet brilliant decision.
I worked a little bit with Cathy Tyson. I remember ‘Band of Gold’ quite clearly. I just think she’s a fantastic actress, and it was brilliant to work with her. She was great fun and we got on really well.

The BBC is a brilliant, infuriating, delightful cornerstone of our culture but it drives me round the twist. I will never forgive them for selling off BBC Centre. It’s probably the best studio facility in Europe, possibly the world, and it’s being sold off for flats and a luxury hotel.
