Overall, I think Michael Jordan is the greatest athlete in any particular sport. He dominated the game for the Chicago Bulls and brought the NBA to its greatest peak of popularity.
Negroes could be sold – actually sold as we sell cattle, with no reference to calves or bulls or recognition of family. It was a nasty business. The white South was properly ashamed of it and continually belittled and almost denied it. But it was a stark and bitter fact.
It is a thrill and an honor to again be a part of the team that helped define my basketball career here in the United States and in Chicago. The Bulls have become my extended family, and I am really looking forward to the future and being a Bull for life.
I try to imagine what it will be like to play for the Bulls. I don’t think I will be able to feel it before I step on the court at Chicago Stadium.
I don’t want to say which guard it was with the Bulls, but I would take the ball and he would come to me and say, ‘You are taking my bread.’ I didn’t know the slang.
Michael left because of the Bulls’ management, not because he’d lost his love of playing the game.
I take my son to school and then I drive 45 minutes to practice with my ABA team, the Florida Pit Bulls, from 10 to 1. In the afternoon, I have meetings.
The first thing I heard when I got in the business – not from my mentor – was, ‘Bulls make money, bears make money, and pigs get slaughtered.’ I’m here to tell you I was a pig. And I strongly believe the only way to make long-term returns in our business that are superior is by being a pig.
I experienced the G League in two forms: one as an assignment player, and then one of actually being in the G League after I got cut by the Bulls. Obviously, both situations are different. You actually sort of still get treated like an NBA player when you’re on assignment. When you’re in G League on contract, you’re down there for real.
To be in a position where an organization like the Bulls creates a bust of you that will permanently be displayed in a building like the United Center says it all. It’s hard to put into words because it is such an honor. It’s great to know that something like that will be around forever.
For me, getting your number retired is the greatest accomplishment. There is no accolade with more significance that you can receive from an organization or school. Whether it was my four years at Central Arkansas or all my seasons with the Bulls in Chicago, it’s a sign of respect for what I have done.
I remember the night in December 2005 when the Bulls retired my number and will never, ever forget it.
Yes, I think the ’96 Bulls are the greatest of all time. I think the 72-10 record speaks for itself and the fact that we were able to cap it off with a championship. What it boils down to is we had a dominant style, a dominant defense, and we were a very good offensive team. It was the way we dominated our opponents that separated ourselves.
My first job, actually, was a Chicago Bulls commercial. I was a ninja. I walked with a limp for a week afterward and got paid 500 dollars 6 months later. Thanks, guys.
You never hear about a pit bull doing anything good in the media. And they have a stigma to them… and, in many ways, pit bulls are like young African-American males. Whenever you see us in the news, it’s for getting shot and killed or shooting and killing somebody – for being a stereotype.
If I see someone with a gamer tag saying they’re fans of the Bulls or the Heat I will trash-talk them and make it known I don’t like them, but I don’t let them know who I am. If I do, I have to change my gamer tag pretty fast.
I realize the NBA has a brand that is very global. But there aren’t many brands that travel as well as the Chicago Bulls. Perhaps only the Los Angeles Lakers.
